Lesson 7 : Why the color wheel is taught but not used

The color wheel is a modern representation of medieval thinking about color falling into a pattern of geometric scientific rationality. We now have a much better understand of how the human eye perceives color and are able to analyse the underlying color patterns behind behind color compositions.

Lets look at the attempt by Adobe Color to represent popular color palettes using the color wheel.


Color Wheels are based on a distorted 2D view of distorted color space and there is no evidence of its use for the creation of good color schemes.
